Bloemfontein - Three men from Bloemfontein are expected to apply for bail tomorrow in the Thaba Nchu Magistrate’s Court after they were arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a local man.

Police spokesperson, Peter Kareli, says Katleho Tlhebatlhaba, Kgosiami Letebele and Lebokgang Molotsi, were arrested last Friday after the body of 31-year-old Lebohoang Kobo was found floating in a dam at Selosesha Trusts outside the city in April this year.

Kareli says police divers retrieved Kobo’s body. He was assaulted and his hands and feet were tied with a rope while the pockets of his trousers were filled with rocks to ensure that he stays submerged under water.

He said the arrest follows good investigation work by a member from the Selosesha Detective Unit, Detective Warrant Officer, Lawrence Lesala, who took over the investigation and later received information about three men who allegedly kidnapped a man in Bloemfontein and took him to Thaba Nchu.

Kareli says the suspects allegedly had a quarrel with Kobo in Bloemfontein after which they assaulted him and put him in the boot of their car. They drove to Thaba Nchu where they tied his hands, put stones in his pockets and threw him in a dam. Kobo drowned. His body was found by a man who walked past the dam, who alerted the police.
