Bloemhof - Four Zimbabwean nationals have been arrested in Bloemhof for possession of suspected stolen satellite batteries, North West police said on Sunday.

Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said they were arrested on Friday.

"The suspects were nabbed after a tip-off was received from the community about a suspicious vehicle travelling along the R34 road towards Bloemhof." Police subsequently stopped the Gauteng registered vehicle along the N12 national road.

"The vehicle, with five males, was searched and 12 satellite batteries as well as one car battery were found inside the vehicle. Although one suspect fled from the scene, the other four were arrested after failing to account for the property."

He said preliminary investigation had revealed that the batteries were stolen in Hoopstad in the Free State. "The suspects, aged between 19 and 37, are expected to appear in the Bloemhof Magistrate’s Court on Monday."
