Bloemfontein man in court for murder of 73-year-old─── 15:23 Mon, 25 Jul 2016
Bloemfontein – A man who allegedly killed a 73-year-old Bloemfontein resident appeared briefly in the town’s magistrate’s court, where his case was postponed, Free State police said on Monday.
His case was postponed to July 29 for a formal bail application, police spokesperson Captain Chaka Marope said.
The 23-year-old Khotso Patrick Jiji was arrested in Phase 5, Mangaung, on Friday morning at 05:00 following a tip-off, said Marope.
He was found in possession of a cellphone that belonged to the deceased.
Hendrik Knoetze was found with his legs and hands bound in his home in Pellissier last week Monday.
There was an open wound at the back of his head.
A neighbour, who last saw him four days earlier, found his kitchen door open around 08:00.
It was believed that Knoetze was killed during a robbery. Marope said Jiji's father was employed by Knoetze as a gardener.
