Douglas - Two men were injured last night, one critically, after a car collided with a train at the railroad crossing in Douglas in the Northern Cape.

ER24 paramedics from the Kimberley branch arrived on the scene at 00h30 and found the wrecked vehicle in the middle of the railway crossing.

On inspection, paramedics discovered two men lying trapped inside the vehicle.

Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free both patients from the vehicle.

Once freed, paramedics found that one man had sustained moderate injuries while the other had sustained critical injuries.

Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured patient with advanced life support interventions. They were thereafter transported to Kimberley Provincial Hospital for urgent treatment.

Fortunately, no-one from the train sustained any injuries.

The details surrounding the collision are subject to the investigation of local authorities.
