ANC says funding effort won't be affected by MVC court bid | News Article

Bloemfontein - A court bid by My Vote Counts (MVC) – a non-governmental organisation – to force political parties to reveal their funders will not affect the ANC’s fund-raising efforts in Bloemfontein tonight.

This is according to the spokesperson for the ANC in the Free State, Thabo Meeko.

The ANC is hosting a fund-raising dinner with President Jacob Zuma in attendance.

This came amid an announcement that MVC is going to court in a bid to force political parties to be transparent about their finances and to reveal their private funders. Meeko says the ANC invited several business owners in the province and hope that they will give handsomely to the party to fund its election campaign.

"We do not deny the fact in any country – not only in South Africa – there will always be a relationship between political parties and business. The issue is that the business should support political parties without any ulterior motives and it is within the prescribe of the law that a political party can have a fund-raising event to raise funds from anybody," Meeko says.
