Bloemfontein - The Free State Education department frowns upon the resignation of the Bloemfontein teacher who is featured in a video that shows how he rough-handles a learner.
The teacher from the Academy of Excellence, a private school in Heidedal, was suspended after a cell phone video capturing the incident – in front of a packed classroom – did the rounds on social media.
Chairperson of the school governing body, Hansie Engelbrecht, confirmed that the video exists, but said the clip does not entail all evidence needed for proper judgement. He said he is not able to comment any further because of legal and procedural diligence. But, the teacher resigned before the school could institute any disciplinary processes against him.
Education spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, says the department is disappointed that the teacher did not allow for this process to be completed so that he could plead guilty or not.
