Brandfort - The Hawks in the Free State are still searching for a firearm that was used by four alleged attackers near Brandfort on Monday.
Hawks spokesperson, S’fiso Nyakane, says they have expanded their search to a dam near the veld where the attack took place.
Charl Gutter was approached and attacked on his farm by the four suspects at about 07:00 when he was about to drive from his farm. A struggle ensued and one of the suspects allegedly fired shots at Gutter. He returned fire and wounded one of the men in the back. The injured attacker, Saniboy Segalo, later died in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.
Nyakane says Teboho Francis, Tefo Tlhabo and Tsietsi Rampa briefly appeared in the local Magistrate's Court today on charges of attempted murder and attempted robbery.
He says they will formally apply for bail on September 7.
They remain in custody.
