Bloemfontein - Students at the Central University of Technology have vowed to stay put and occupy the Bloemfontein campus of the institution, despite a decision by University management that the campus be evacuated and closed by 12:00 today.

University management say this decision was taken in the interest of staff and students' safety, but students say they won't leave, as they paid to be there. They promised to occupy the campus until they receive feedback on their memorandum of demands from University council.

The CUT council is scheduled to meet on Thursday, after which they will respond to the students' demands.

Among these are a zero percent fee hike for all students, regardless of income, improved campus security, longer library hours, and better management of students' food and book allowance payments.
