Free Education Movement will not back down at UFS | News Article

Bloemfontein - The Free Education Movement (FEM) at the University of the Free State (UFS) will stand firm on the stance of shutting down the institution.

Members of the movement will not give in until their demands are met by government. This according to a well-informed student at the Bloemfontein Campus who wishes to remain anonymous.

He says the group plans to protest outside classes on the campus. This comes after the UFS yesterday communicated that all academic and administrative services on all three of its campuses will resume today.

In a statement the UFS warned students to ignore hoax messages stating that campuses will be closed. The informed student says some students including himself are writing tests today, but members of the movement pledged to a total shutdown of the university.

He believes that the movement's members will not have a violent approach.

Meanwhile, there has been unconfirmed reports that a few members of the movement entered the Architecture building on the Bloemfontein Campus last night and chased away students who were busy working after hours.

A group of about 300 members of the movement held a night vigil at the Thakaneng Bridge.
