Lesotho and South Africa ‘share a special relationship’─── REFILWE GAESWE 15:58 Thu, 29 Sep 2016
Neighboring countries, Lesotho and South Africa, "share a special relationship" and need to make it easier for their citizens to move between the two countries.
This is what Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba, said at the Maseru Border Post today. He said South Africa does not need to lock Lesotho citizens in their country, knowing that on frequent occasions they travel to South Africa for various reasons.
Gigaba mentioned that they have been trying to achieve two main goals namely to regularise the stay of Lesotho citizens in the country and easing movement between the two countries. He explained that they are moving towards the next phase, which will see the two countries sharing their database.
“This is to ensure that Lesotho nationals travelling to South Africa will have their passports ready . We will, however, not stamp them. This will assist people by not necessitating frequent passport replacements due to pages filled with stamps. That’s going to be a great step forward in terms of the relationship between the two countries,” Gigaba said
