More South Africans make use of Social networking platforms | News Article

Bloemfontein - Facebook is now used by thirteen million South Africans.

This is one of the findings from a Social Media Landscape Study that was released by World Wide Worx recently. The study is based on access to consumer data from seven major social networks and a corporate survey conducted among more than a hundred of South Africa’s leading brands.

The study shows that Twitter grew by 15% to 7,4-million users in the last year. A social media expert, Arthur Goldstuck, says the biggest growth came from Instagram, which rose a massive 31% over the last year, making it the fastest growing social network in the country. He added that South Africans are becoming more inclined to make use of visual social media platforms.

“The big ones that have been around for the longest like Facebook and Twitter are obviously growing a lot more slowly now. YouTube grew by seven percent and is now used by 8.8 million South Africans. Instagram and YouTube share one characteristic, they are visual media. Especially younger users are now more then ever moving into visual social media platforms,” says Goldstuck.

He adds it is interesting to note that SA users start posting on Instagram between 8am and 9am and then don't stop until 3pm.
