Sol Plaatje students demand no fee increases and insourcing of workers | News Article

Kimberley - Students at the Sol Plaatje University in Kimberley this morning handed a memorandum of demands to the University's management.

This comes after two weeks during which academic programmes at the university have been suspended, due to students participating in the national Fees Must Fall movement. The students demand a zero percent increase in fees, as well as a commitment from the university to assist any students who are unable to afford class fees. They also demand the insourcing of all university staff, including cleaners and security officers.

Meanwhile, North West University spokesperson, Louis Jacobs, says the institution plans to reopen all three its campuses on Monday, despite warnings from the EFF that all universities will remain closed, until free education is assured.

Jacobs says all the university's contingency plans are aimed at ensuring the safety of staff and students.
