Kimberley - Approximately 500 protesters gathered outside the Kimberley Hospital complex this morning between 07:00 and 10:00.
This is according to Police Spokesperson, Sergio Kock.
He says protesters were burning tires outside the hospital complex and violence broke out.
Kock says a group of protesters set alight sheets and linen inside the theatre hall on the sixth floor of the hospital.
Nine people were arrested for public violence and the contravention of a court order. Kock says one man was also charged for assaulting a police officer.
"At this stage the situation is back to normal, however the police are closely monitoring the situation. No other injuries were reported to the police, and investigations continues."
