Shocking report on working conditions of police in FS | News Article

Bloemfontein - Shocking findings on the working conditions of police officers in the Free State were released on Thursday.

Public Service Commissioner in the province, Henk Boshoff, says during inspections at three police stations in the Mangaung municipal area, police officers were found to work under severe conditions.

Two of the police stations visited – Kopanong and Bloemspruit - have the highest murder and contact crime rates in the province.

Boshoff says despite an urgent need for infrastructure, the lack of proper municipality services and the shortage of vehicles, the shortage of police officers demands urgent intervention.

"In the Bloemspruit region, 140 police officers police an area with approximately 313 000 people. At Kopanong we're looking at anything from 300 000 to 500 000 people being served by 85 police officers - of which 19 are administrative staff members," Boshoff adds.
