NC SAPS finance clerk appears for R3.4 million fraud─── 10:08 Fri, 20 Jan 2017
Springbok - A Finance Administration Clerk at the Springbok police office has appeared before the local Regional Court on various charges of fraud.
Siyabonga Mangqishi (36) allegedly falsified financial documents and received undue payments worth R3.4 million to his personal account. The fraudulent transactions took place since January 2014.
Northern Cape police spokesperson, Philani Nkwalase, says personal particulars of numerous fellow colleagues were used to submit fictitious applications requesting cash advances and claims that varied from meals, accommodation costs, to the renewal of state vehicle licence disks.
Nkwalase says a senior police officer noticed the irregularities and upon probing the matter, further fraudulent incidents surfaced.
Mangqishi was arrested on Monday (16 January 2017) and appeared in court the following day. The case was postponed to 24 April 2017 for further investigation. Mangqishi was released with stringent bail conditions.
