Illegal connections rife in FS─── CATHY DLODLO 15:48 Fri, 20 Jan 2017
Bloemfontein - Some of the struggling municipalities in the Free State that faced electricity supply cuts because of their outstanding debt to electricity giant, Eskom, are losing up to 30% of electricity to illegal connections.
This is according to Free State Director-General, Kopung Ralikontsane. He said the non-payment of electricity bills by residents and the illegal connections are some of the biggest challenges the municipalities are facing.
Ralikontsane says the municipalities are now – in terms of an agreement with Eskom – advised to install smart electricity prepaid meters.
