Potchefstroom - Three deaths have thus far been reported in the seven North West municipalities affected by flooding.

The worst hit municipalities are Ratlou, Kagisano-Molopo, Greater Taung, Ramotshere Moiloa, Mahikeng, Moses Kotane, Rustenburg, Maquassi Hills, and the Matlosana local municipality.

According to the spokesperson in the Premier’s Office, Brian Setswambung, a primary school boy drowned when he attempted to cross a stream in Leporung near the Botswana border, and two people died in Phokeng near Rustenburg when their car was swept away. Provincial government officials were being sent to assess the damage caused.

“The provincial government continues to monitor the situation, to ensure that we become proactive and alert to the possible recurrences of this nature,” Setswambung added.
