SONA delivers on the expected drama, and more─── 21:23 Thu, 11 Feb 2016
The State of the nation provided the expected drama, with the Economic Freedom Fighters, and Congress of the People leaving parliament voluntarily. What did you think of the event?
The evening started with members of the EFF and Cope repeatedly raising points of order, and being shut down by the Speaker of Parliament.
Cope leader, Mosiuoa Lekota, was the first to leave the chamber. He was followed by the EFF, chanting "Zupta must fall" as they waltzed out of the chamber.
Among the president's most important points was an assurance that the planned nuclear build would only proceed if we can afford it. There was also plenty of reassuring that we are working hard to pull our economy up by its bootstraps.
The question on everyone's lips is whether all this was enough to turn international sentiment, and increase investment. Can we head off a recession?
OFM will soon upload the full content of the president's speech.
What do you think of the issues he mentioned? Do you think he succeeded in allaying fears?
What would you have liked to hear?
