Thousands expected at EFF manifesto launch─── 07:35 Sat, 30 Apr 2016
Johannesburg - Thousands of supporters are expected at the launch of the Economic Freedom Fighters local government elections manifesto at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg, today.
Spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi however does not want to commit himself on exactly how many people are expected to attend.
Two weeks ago, the governing African National Congress was left with egg on its face when the 46,000-seat Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth was only two-thirds full for its official launch of the election campaign, when it had been expecting more than 100,000 people to attend.
Last week, the official opposition Democratic Alliance also had its fair share of empty seats during its manifesto launch in Johannesburg’s 13,500-capacity Rand Stadium, though it had expected a crowd of 20,000, but said it was pleased with the turnout of supporters.
Launched in August 2013 in Marikana, North West, where 34 mine-workers were shot dead during a violent strike for higher wages, the EFF became the third largest party in South Africa when it took 6.35 percent of the vote in the 2014 provincial and national general elections.
