Service at Post Office outlets 'should not be affected' - CEO | News Article

Durban - SA Post Office CEO Mark Barnes says he doesn't expect services at its outlets to be affected tomorrow and on Friday when employees from the Communication Workers Union go on strike.

Barnes says they've received notice for a stay-away, but contingency plans are in place to reduce service interruptions at post offices countrywide. He says they have communicated with employees regarding labour issues.

Barnes says the Post Office has started recovering in terms of service standards and is in the process of making financial improvements. However, it needs needs funding to address the concerns of its employees and Barnes believes that a strike at this time - would jeopardise current funding arrangements and won't help to address workers' issues.

Barnes says that the parastatal will continue to engage all trade unions on matters that affect employees.

Workers claim they haven't received any salary adjustments in the last two years.
