Durban – A KwaZulu-Natal filmmaker is expected to fly the South African flag high at the Cannes Film Festival next week, the KwaZulu-Natal Arts and Culture department said on Wednesday.

Senzo Zindela, from Ezinqoleni on the south coast, would be part of a delegation of producers representing the country at this year's festival in France, the department's spokesperson, Lethukuthula Mtshali, said. The festival runs from May 11 to 22.

Zindela founded the Ugu Film Festival, which recently won a special recognition award at the South African Film and Television Awards for its contribution to the province’s development. "He is a self-taught scriptwriter and film producer and he continues to make a name for himself, with a number of his films featuring on platforms such as Mzansi Magic."

KwaZulu-Natal Arts and Culture MEC, Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha, said such festivals allowed artists to showcase their work and earn a living from their craft.
