The first ever Voice SA winner crowned | News Article
Richard Stirton

Johannesburg – The first season of The Voice SA ended on a triumphant note.

After facing four rounds of competition, Richard Stirton and his coach Kahn Morbee were crowned the winners.

The grand finale was broadcast live from Sasani Studios in Johannesburg and included performances by guest artists Vusi Mahlasela and popular Afrikaans singer Riana Nel.

Coaches Karen Zoid, Lira and Bobby van Jaarsveld also took to stage to perform with their teams.

Along with being crowned the winner, Richard also walks away with a recording contract from Universal Music SA and more than R800 000 worth of prizes.

But the night was not without drama.

Twitter was a buzz on Sunday after the top 4 contestants, Gavin Edwards, Richard Stirton, Jeremy Olivier and Almur Marais were all white males. Supporters of Thembeka Mnguni and Zoe Modiga were shocked when the girls didn't make the cut.

However, close to the end of the show it was announced that apart from Richard, Universal Music would also be signing both Zoe and Thembeka to their record company.

The final voting also had viewers furious after they couldn't cast their votes on the platforms made available.

Host Lungile Radu explained that due to technical problems with the voting system all the votes cast on Sunday night won't be added to the final count. Instead the show reverted back to the votes cast during the week as per the terms and conditions on The Voice SA’s website.
