Court orderly nabbed for transporting drugs to court cells | News Article

Bellville - A police sergeant will appear on the wrong side of the dock on Wednesday on corruption charges after allegedly being nabbed with drugs and cellphones at the Bellville Magistrate's Court.

The officer was arrested on Wednesday morning by the Western Cape Anti-Corruption Investigating Unit, who acted on information received last Thursday that an orderly was transporting drugs to the court cells, provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut, confirmed.

"He was placed under observation… [and] was seen leaving a bag next to the court building. He left immediately without reporting for duty," Traut said.

"The bag was searched and 50 Mandrax tablets, three packets of tik, dagga, two cellphones and three batteries were discovered inside."

Investigations led to the arrest of the 39-year-old officer.

"We are eager to root out corruption among our ranks and will make every endeavour to bring perpetrators to book," Traut added.
