Johannesburg - The roofs of three big buildings, including a hospital, in Tembisa on the East Rand have collapsed as a storm lashed Gauteng on Tuesday, police confirmed.
Spokesperson for Ekurhuleni metro police department, William Kgasago, said roofs collapsed at Phumlani Mall, Tembisa Hospital, and at a local Total petrol station due to a severe rain storm.
Netcare911's Chris Botha says 17 people sustained minor injuries after being hit by flying debris at the mall. Medics are treating the injured at the scene.
There has been widespread hail and heavy rain around the country with three people killed in areas in and around Durban. More snow is predicted for this evening.
