Newly elected SACSSP president will make some changes─── REFILWE GAESWE 16:09 Mon, 29 Aug 2016
Johannesburg - The newly elected president of the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) says she will affect some changes during her five-year term.
In the two months since Maria Mabetoa’s appointment, she has established the child and youth care board in addition to the one social work board.
Mabetoa says the council will also expand and improve the registration process of social services, which has suffered in the past.
She says the council had been using an outdated Act which focused mainly on social workers.
"We now have other professionals as part of the council. So the new legislation will accommodate other social service professionals and also the creation of a new board. For example, we have community development workers who might become social service professionals," she says.
