Man arrested with drugs worth R1.2 million─── 13:14 Fri, 17 Feb 2017
Johannesburg – A man was arrested at his home in Germiston, east of Johannesburg, with narcotics valued at R1.2 million, the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) said on Friday.
The man was arrested on Thursday following information received by members of the EMPD drug enforcement unit several weeks ago, spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Wilfred Kgasago said.
Kgasago said the movements of the 29-year-old suspected drug supplier were closely monitored on a daily basis.
"The house on Bailleul Street in the suburb of Delville owned by a Nigerian national, was pounced upon around 10:00 [on Thursday] whereupon narcotics valued at approximately R1.2 million were recovered," he said.
Officers uncovered 17 packets of the drug Cat in a baby cot as well as a plate of cocaine rocks in a refrigerator.
He is expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate's Court on Friday on charges of possession of illegal substances.
