Fund established to help farmers' children with study fees─── SABRINA DEAN 17:34 Wed, 18 Nov 2015
Bloemfontein - As the agriculture community and rallies to try and get fodder to drought-hit farmers who are not receiving Government assistance, one organisation is trying to assist with another unintended consequence of the drought.
The Solidarity Helping Hand Foundation has started a study fund to enable the children of farmers to be able to go and study next year.
Helping Hand's Executive Director Danie Brink says many farmers are in dire straits due to the drought and they hope to be able to take at least one worry off their shoulders:
“The farmers helped us a lot last year with the Amcu strikes in Rustenburg and they had a very open hand and donated a lot of things.
“We feel it’s only right that they now get the chance to be supported. So we have asked the rest of the public, possibly with whom it’s still going well financially, to support us in this.”
Brink says anyone who wants to assist can sms the word “Boer” to 38969 to contribute R10 to the campaign.
Those in need of study aid next year should call 012-644-4390 and ask for the Helping Hand study help centre.
