Bloemfontein - ANC Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe has highlighted land as the issue in South Africa that is closest to his heart.

This was in response to questions during the party’s birthday celebration event in Mangaung at the weekend. Mantashe says people are getting impatient with the rate of land reform:

“It (the thing closest to my heart) is land because the consolidation of the majority staying on 13% of the land is coming back to bite us. We should work on it and accelerate the pace of land redistribution.

“Black South African’s cannot wait, they are becoming impatient.”

However, commenting on the economy, Mantashe says it is a big mistake to think that by dispossessing white South African’s you can resolve black poverty. He says you can’t take wealth from 8% and resolve a problem that affects 80% of South Africans.
