Northern Cape agricultural company, GWK Farm Foods, has officially launched one of the most modern and technologically advanced food production facilities in Africa at Modder River.

The R400 million invested in the mill, pasta and biscuit factory resulted in technology being imported from Italy and Switzerland. GWK Farm Foods will initially produce wheat flour, pasta and biscuits under the new Nature’s Farms brand in addition to established maize meal products.

The product names and packaging design showcase GWK’s origin on the farm and the new product offering tells consumers where their food comes from. GWK’s Managing Director, Pieter Spies, said they are very selective with regard to the marketing of the new product line.

The group want to work with the right partners to take their products to shelves across the country. The new agri-processing plant has the capacity of processing 25 tons of wheat flour per hour, 1.3 tons per hour for biscuits and 1 ton per hour for pasta.

The wheat used at the plant is sourced from irrigation farmers who produce quality grains in the GWK production area.
