Bloemfontein - One of the highlights at this year’s Bloem Show will undoubtedly be the taste adventure in store at the Red Meat Producer’s Organisation (RPO) stand.

RPO Free State’s Neville Raath says it is very important for them as an organisation to not only showcase the meat produced by their members, but to also educate consumers. He says the stand is specifically geared to teach the average housewife how to make informed choices when she does her meat shopping.

“Our classification system still gives the consumer the best possible opportunity of getting the right cut and also paying the right price for the right cut. So if you come along to the stand, you will see we will have the different carcasses hanging there with the different markings on them and the different colourings.

“So if you as a housewife walks into the supermarket you will know exactly, if I look at this specific marking on the meat that is what I am getting and that’s what I am paying for.”

Although the organisation represents all red meat, the focus at the show this year is on mutton and lamb. He says there will be lamb on the spit, tastings of tripe, or afval, a slaughter lamb competition and more.

The show starts on Wednesday and runs until May 7.
