Bothaville - While the final statistics will only be released later this week, Nampo organisers say they are confident of an even more positive outcome than last year.

Nampo Committee Chairperson, Cobus van Coller, says he believes they have achieved the primary goal of the event, namely to facilitate trade and business. He has also thanked visitors and exhibitors for making the event a success.

Grain SA last week announced that visitor numbers on the first two days of the event were already at 2500 more than on the first two days of the 2015 Harvest Day.

Meanwhile, agricultural economist, Ernst Janovsky, says it makes sense that there was good business this year, despite the impact of the drought.

“This is the first drought that we’ve ever gone into in terms of having a free market. And what’s happened in the free market is purely that as the volumes go down, the prices go up.

“So the guys have still got the revenue that they had previously. It’s not that the revenue has gone. Yes, there will be individuals who don’t have a crop – so if you have nothing to sell, then you’re in trouble. But in principle, the bulk of people will have that.”
