Port Elizabeth - The National Wool Growers Association (NWGA) will be taking a look at "Transformation with a Twist" during its national congress in Port Elizabeth on June 1 and 2.

NWGA General Manager, Leon de Beer, says the programme incorporates a diverse range of speakers. He says Professor Nick Vink will speak about how to be proactive in the wool industry during trying times while another highlight will be an address by Peter Kingwell, who is attending his fiftieth congress this year.

De Beer says he is also looking forward to a speech by extreme athlete and motivational speaker, Kobus Oosthuizen.

“He is a motivational speaker who also participated in an extreme marathon in Namibia, which stretches about 250km over seven days. He motivated a Xhosa man to participate and within three months he was ready to participate successfully.

“They also ran the marathon using wool products so I think it is going to be an interesting discussion for us.”

The congress will also seek to engage with young producers to find out where they get their advice, as well as communal farmers. Also on the agenda is feedback from the international wool textile organisation congress, an address by the national sheep farmer of the year, Nelius van der Westhuizen, a focus on predation and more.
