Bothaville - Grain SA's 50th Nampo Harvest Day last week has continued the trend of recent years with several records once again broken.

The organisation said in a statement it had a new visitor record, with 75 100 people attending, while exhibitors numbers were also higher than ever before at 685.

Grain SA Commercial Services Manager Johan Loxton says attendance figures exceeded all expectations. He says they have also had positive feedback from exhibitors, who confirmed they were able to do good business during the event.

Loxton says the airstrip record was also blown away with 448 light aircrafts and helicopters arriving this year compared to last year’s 399.

Meanwhile Agri SA CEO, Jannie de Villiers, says he has great respect for the South African farmers' appetite for risk. He says despite difficult conditions producers are still prepared to invest in the industry.

De Villiers says they didn’t just attend Nampo to come and look, but also to make calculated purchases. He says this gives people hope.
