Bloemfontein - Exchange rate volatility is one of three trends expected to dominate discussions in the next agricultural markets forecast workshop presented by agricultural economist, Professor Johan Willemse.

The workshop is set to tackle market and weather prospects likely to impact planting decisions for the new season, as well as exploring macro-economic influences.

“Part of those drivers is the exchange rate, which influences your input costs, fuel prices and the price of our product.

“So we will have to have a good debate on what is the view on the Rand going forward, and how that will impact on the markets and the pricing in agriculture.”

Willemse says other key drivers at present are the anticipated record US grain crop and expectations for the new season in South Africa. The workshop takes place in Bloemfontein on September 6.
