Agri sector stability a key focus at TAU SA Congress─── SABRINA DEAN 14:45 Tue, 30 Aug 2016
Pretoria - The Transvaal Agricultural Union of South Africa hosts its annual congress in Pretoria next week with the focus on creating stability within the sector to ensure food security.
TAU SA says the agriculture sector has both direct and indirect impacts on the economy of the country. It also estimates that around 8,5 million people are directly or indirectly dependent on agriculture for their employment and income.
The agricultural union also states that the sector has the potential to stabilise South Africa’s economy as a positive contributor to food security, environmental sustainability and economic opportunity. This means it is also important to encourage investment in the sector.
Congress takes place at the CSIR Convention Centre in Pretoria on September 7.
Speakers include PWC’s Roelof Botha, Agri All Africa Chairperson, Dr Theo de Jager, and Professor Koos Malan from the University of Pretoria’s law faculty.
Also on the agenda are the announcement of the TAU SA Young Farmer of the Year and the election of office bearers, including the President and Deputy President.
