Committee Chair Rosina Semenya says they arrived at the facility with a list of vaccines identified as being unavailable following consultations with livestock roleplayers. She says they were very pleasantly surprised to find stock of pretty much everything on the list.

Semenya says the challenge with vaccine availability is not due to manufacturing problems but rather the introduction of a news distribution system. She says, however, they are impressed with the steps taken by OBP to rectify the problem:

“They are targeting the co-ops and as they started taargeting the co-ops they ended up not reaching everybody. Now they have put a system in place. Anyone in need of vaccines can contact them and the system is then linked with their fridge and storeroom.

“It is a very intelligent system and is going to help them to resolve those challenges.

The oversight visit also includes a tour through the Agricultural Research Council’s Onderstepoort Veterinary Institute.
