Grain fraud case back in court in March | News Article

Odendaalsrus - A 46-year-old man appeared in court this week on charges relating to grain fraud to the value of R7,6 million.

Hawks spokesperson, S’fiso Nyakana, says Gavin Stanley was arrested for allegedly defrauding five farmers in the Free State, North West and Northern Cape.

“It is alleged that in 2013, Stanley defrauded the grain farmers under false pretences that he knew somebody who would buy their grain at a good price. After the farmers gave hime their grain, he vanished.

“In all of the cases he used the same modus operandi.”

Stanley appeared in the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court on five counts of fraud and money laundering.

He was released on R50 000 bail and the case was postponed to March 3 for further investigation.
