Russia set for Rio 2016 suspension | News Article

The World Anti-Doping Agency has recommended that the Russia be banned from the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

This comes on the back of WADA's damning report on allegations of doping, cover-ups, and extortion in Russian athletics, which also implicated the IAAF, the sport's world governing body.

Russia was also accused of running a state-supported doping programme.

The report recommended that five athletes and five coaches should be given lifetime doping bans.

IAAF president Lord Sebastian Coe told the BBC in an interview that the Russian athletics federation has been asked to respond to the allegations by the end of the week.

The commission's chairman, Dick Pound, who recommended that the Russian federation get banned from Rio says the crises was worse than initially thought.

The international police body Interpol has confirmed that they will be co-ordinating a global investigation into the suspected corruption and doping.
