SA's best tackle 2015 SkyRun | News Article

The SkyRun is clearly a race the majority of South Africa’s elite ultra-trail runners have on their list to conquer.

Most of SA’s elite athletes have arrived in the beautiful town of Lady Grey ready to tackle the SkyRun presented by Salomon. The local elite contingent includes defending champion and record holder at twelve hours and eight minutes, Ian Don-Wauchope; The Drakensberg Grand Traverse record holder, Ryno Griesel; multiple LionHeart winner, AJ Calitz; and recent UTCT winner, Christiaan Greyling.  With many more male elites, and many more titles behind each of them, the SkyRun has attracted one of the best fields in South African Trail history.

In the ladies field, rookie SkyRunner, Nicolette Griffioen, will be challenging the ladies record holder and elite athlete, Landie Greyling, both of whom are fresh from a successful summer of international racing.

Race Director, Mike de Haast, when asked about what makes the SkyRun such a bucket list event, says “Having the ability to attract such a classy field to the SkyRun presented by Salomon, allows our weekend warriors an opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the best ultra-runners in Southern Africa on exactly the same playing field and pit their skills against that of an elite athlete. The challenges of the terrain, altitude, weather and other variables will ensure that it is no easy feat.”

The SkyRun is a one hundred kilometres of unsupported, self-navigational, ultra-trail running that takes place in Lady Grey on the 21st of November 2015.
