France’s Stephane Peterhansel has remained on course for his 12th Dakar Rally title after maintaining the overall lead after the 431km 11th stage between La Rioga and San Juan.
Qatar’s Nassar Al-Atttiyah won the stage in 4 hours 49 minutes, however, it was not enough to dethrone Peterhansel who finished fourth in 4 hours 57 minutes and 21 seconds.
Nine-time world Rally champion, Sebastien Loeb of France, returned to his very best against yesterday after experiencing a torrid week during the gruelling rally.
Loeb claimed second during the stage in 4 hours 55 minutes and 8 seconds, however, remained 9th in the overall standings.
Loeb says a broken transmission saw him lose time, however, he is happy with the stage.
South Africa’s Giniel de Villiers remains 3rd overall - 1 hour 17 minutes and 24 seconds off the pace of Peterhansel while his fellow South Africans Leeroy Poulter and Robert Howie remain in 5th.
Today’s stage is from San Juan to Villa Carlos Paz.
