It was a good day for Team South Africa at the Games in Rio de Janeiro with a gold, two silvers and a bronze medal won in the track events.

Charl du Toit won South Africa’s third gold at the games when he won the men’s T37 100m sprint in a time of 11.45 seconds.

He’s teammate and defending champion, Fanie van der Merwe, won the bronze in the same event in a time of 11.54 seconds.

About 10 minutes after Du Toit and Van der Merwe clinched the gold and bronze, Ilse Hayes won the silver in the women’s T13 100m.

Hayes ran a brilliant race, but had to settle for the silver after the Ukraine’s Leilia Adzhametova won the race in a new world record time of 11.79 seconds.

The 14-year-old Ntando Mahlangu capped off South Africa’s outstanding day on the track by winning the silver medals in the men’s T37 200m in a time of 23.77 seconds.
