South Africa’s swimming golden boy, Chad le Clos narrowly missed out on the world record early on Wednesday morning as he won the 200m butterfly gold at the FINA Short Course World Championships in Windsor, Canada.

Le Clos touched the wall in 1:48.76 to win his third short course world title, but missed his own world record by just 0.2 seconds.

South Africa’s most decorated swimmer had to come from behind to beat Tom Shields of the USA and Daiya Seto to the wall.

Le Clos time was also the third fastest time of all-time in the event.

Russia’s Aleksandr Kharlanov who was the fastest qualifier during the semi-finals missed out on the medals and had to settle for fourth.

Meanwhile, Cameron van der Burgh, missed on the 100m breaststroke final after stubbeling in the semis.

Van der Burgh’s time of 57.67 was the ninth fastest time and this means that he just missed out on the final.
