Cupcakes of hope in Bloemfontein | News Article

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This year National Cupcake Day 4 Kids with Cancer will be held on the 24th September at 63 participating malls across the country including Loch Logan Waterfront in Bloemfontein.

Cupcakes of Hope is a non-profit company that aims to create awareness and raise funds for children with cancer through their love of baking cupcakes. Last year Cupcakes of Hope raised R1.5 million on National Cupcake Day 4 Kids with cancer.

This money has helped more than 500 patients by paying for their medical or other day-to-day expenses. Cupcakes of Hope also spoils patients on their birthdays and organises special 'end of treatment' surprises.

Sandy Cipriano, founder of Cupcakes of Hope, says, “It is amazing to see how the whole community gets involved to help these brave little patients.”

On the 24th September, members of the public can visit any participating mall where,
for a R10 donation, they will receive a delicious cupcake that has been made with love.
Although the main fundraising event happens in September, Cupcakes of Hope holds awareness events throughout the year. Schools, companies and individuals can also host their own Party of Hope by registering online.

Once registered, they will receive a free Angel Party Pack that includes awareness pamphlets, baking cups, badges and balloons - everything you need to prepare for your Party of Hope.

Party of Hope co-ordinator, Michelle Larsen, says: “We invite young and old to become Cupcake Angels, it’s by far the SWEETEST way to save a life!"

As September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we kicked off the month by hosting National Cupcake for Breakfast Day on 1 September. On this day, we celebrate the lives of all our cancer heroes: those who are currently fighting the battle, those who have beaten cancer and those who have lost their battle. They will never be forgotten and their memories will live with us always.

Cupcake of Hope has designed an infographic to help educate parents on the early warning signs of childhood cancer. This is now available in 16 languages on their website – www.cupcakesofhope.org.

Cipriano says: “It is so important for parents to know what to look out for because early detection can save a child’s life.”
