Pukke rugby player cleared of charges | News Article

Potchefstroom - North West University rugby player, Bart le Roux, was cleared of the charges that he was ineligible to play for Pukke during the 2016 season of the Varsity Cup.

According to the tournament rules, a player is not allowed to participate as a first-year player on more than one occasion. The tighthead prop had previously represented the University of KwaZulu-Natal as a first-year student in 2014. Pukke coach, Jonathan Mokuena, says they always expected the verdict to go their way.

Mokuena says that they were surprised when this matter was brought up. He also said that the player can at least now focus on his game, now that the issue has been laid to rest. Pukke would have been stripped of their 2016 Varsity Cup rugby title, had they been found guilty of fielding an ineligible player throughout the season.
