The former Springbok and Bulls coach, Heyneke Meyer, could be back in Super Rugby sooner than expected, with the mentor being linked with a job in Australia.

According to the Perth-based daily, The West Australian, Meyer could be taking over the reins of the Super Rugby outfit, the Western Force.

The battling side are currently without a coach after the former Wallabies hooker, Michael Foley, was sacked from the job a week ago.

Meyer told the Australian newspaper, that he feels the job at the Force has a lot to offer.

“I’ll definitely look at the (Western Force) opportunity if there’s something in the pipeline,” Meyer said.

“I think there’s a great opportunity there.

“The Force have got a lot of good things going for them.

“Since the Force started, I always thought it was a great, great, great place to build a team.

“I’ve always liked the underdog. The big challenge is where you take a team. The challenge is to build a team, to take it and mould it the way you want.

“They’ve got good youngsters and I’ve watched Super Rugby quite intensively. A lot of the games they lost were quite close. They lacked a bit of experience.

“It’s a building process and while you would need to give it some time you still have to win. If they can keep the core of players together, success will come.

“You need a culture, like-minded people who want to be world class, who are willing to work hard, whose work ethic is really high and want to build something.”

Meyer had also been linked with a move to England to join the AVIVA Premiership outfit, Bath, where it is said that he will be taking over as the Director of Rugby. These reports have, however, faded as quick as they appeared.

Should Meyer get the job at the Force, his first job at hand could be to guide the team in South Africa as early as next week when the side tackle the Toyota Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

The Force are currently the wooden-spooners in the Australasian group in the Super Rugby on 12 points following 2 wins and 10 defeats in their 12 matches thus far.

The Cheetahs and Western Force lock horns on Saturday 20 July, with kick-off at the Toyota Stadium at 15:00.
