On Monday the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) released a report indicating that 15 players in South Africa have tested positive for the use of banned substances.

OFM Sport was informed on Tuesday afternoon that at least two current Springboks are under investigation by the South African Institute for Drug Free Sport (SAIDS).

The renowned radio rugby commentator, Thando Manana, via the social media platform, Twitter, revealed that he had evidence that two Springboks of African descent had been doping.

When OFM Sport contacted Manana with regards to his Twitter post, he indicated that he has the names of two players and they are not the two players in the photos he posted online.

He simply used the images to indicate that there are two players being fingered for the use of banned substances.

In the meantime, SARU had been contacted and the General Manager for Corporate Affairs, Andy Colquhoun, confirmed that they have also been informed that two players returned positive doping results.

Colquhoun, indicated that due to World Rugby protocol they are obliged to protect the identity of the mentioned players.

“World Rugby regulations require that we protect the confidentiality of players until anti-doping processes have run their course,” said Colquhoun.

“We have been notified by SAIDs that two professional players have provided positive samples to dope tests.

“The matter is in SAIDS’ hands.”
