The Toyota Cheetahs are enjoying their last week of a well-deserved break before returning to training next week ahead of Super Rugby.

The team will assemble next week Tuesday ahead of the 2017 campaign.

One of the big talking points at the moment is the recovery of the Springbok centre and team captain, Francois Venter.

The player underwent surgery on his ankle following the Springboks’ end-of-year tour last year to repair the damage sustained during the Free State Cheetahs Currie Cup second round tie against the Blue Bulls.

Venter is in doubt for their first few matches of the Super Rugby, however, he confirmed to OFM Sport that he is on the mend and is hoping to be ready for the opening game against the Lions.

“It’s coming along nicely, hopefully, I will be ready for the first game.”

Venter missed a large part of the Cheetahs Currie Cup campaign, however, was able to lead the title to the title.

He went on to make his long-awaited Springbok debut and played in all for their tour matches in November. This included the tour match against the Barbarians as well as Tests against England, Italy and Wales.

The Cheetahs tackle the Lions on 25 February at the Toyota Stadium in their opening match.
