Giants draw each other in Nedbank Cup 1st round─── 09:01 Fri, 29 Jan 2016
Bloemfontein Celtic have been drawn in a tough fixture of the first round in the Nedbank Cup.
Celtic will face Wits in Johannesburg in the opening round of the competition.
The two sides will also be battling it out this weekend in the Premier Soccer League as the second round of fixtures gets underway.
Celtic are under pressure following 9 matches without a win.
One of the most exciting fixtures for the first round will see another Soweto derby between the bitter-rivals, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
The Buccaneers will have home ground advantage for the match and ironically these two teams will also be battling it out in the league this weekend.
Pirates coach, Eric Tinkler, told OFM Sport that drawing their rivals in the first round could be a blessing in disguise.
“If you want to win this competition, you’ve got to beat all the teams.
“Sometimes drawing the so-called smaller teams you’ve seen in the past that you can slip up.
“Possibly the fact that this has happened with the two giants coming up against each other in the first round is just an added motivation to the players.”
He added that there is still a long way to go before their knockout match and their focus will solely be on this weekend’s derby.
"There's a long, long way to go from now until then in terms of our preparation. There's a long way to go in terms of possible injuries and possible suspensions.
"All of those things you have to take into account the closer you get to that game.
"Right now the focus is on us performing well against Kaizer Chiefs this weekend, trying to get three points so we can start climbing the league."
Saturday's big Soweto Derby at the FNB Stadium kicks off at 15:30.
