Mamelodi Sundowns have reaffirmed their status as the title favourites with a 5-2 drubbing of Free State Stars in the Premier Soccer League.

The Brazilians came from a goal down to thrash Ea Lla Koto after Danny Venter opened the scoring for the side from Bethlehem in the 1st minute of yesterday’s tie.

Wayne Arendse equalised just before the break, but Downs took the lead in the 59th minute with Keagan Dolly finding the back of the net.

Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat added two more to the score before Hendrik Somaeb of Stars and Mogakolodi Ngele of Downs scored for either side in the 90th minute.

The win saw Pitso Mosimane’s chargers open a six-point cushion over Wits at the top of the PSL standings after 18 games.

The coach hailed his Columbian important, Castro, as a silent killer.

"Those three up front are the difference. Leo is a silent killer, and under-rated – he doesn’t do too many things, but just scores. He’s South American, and just knows what to do.

"He’s well coached from development.

"Khama also makes a difference, and Keagan works hard … I’m so happy he scored against Stars.

"Those three are on fire, hey!"

In Sunday's other games Ajax Cape Town beat SuperSport United 3-1 in Pretoria, while Platinum Stars beat Polokwane City 3-0.

Saturday’s Black Aces and Bloemfontein Celtic match ended goalless while Chippa United handed Jomo Cosmos their 10th loss of the season with a 2-1 win.
