The former Bafana Bafana, Kaizer Chiefs and Stuttgart defender, Bradley Carnell, appears to be the front-runner to take over the coaching job at Free State Stars.

This comes after the shock resignation of Giovanni Solinas yesterday morning, less than six months after taking over the job from Ernst Middendorp.

Until recently Carnell was still a football analyst and commentator on SuperSport.

The 39-year-old Carnell joined Ea Lla Koto along with Solinas in December and is the side's assistant coach.

The Free State Stars striker, Ayanda Nkosi, said Carnell would be the perfect fit for the job.

"Coach Bradley would be a perfect choice because it would be a continuation of the work we've been doing," Nkosi told Kickoff.

"I feel it's consistency that separates top teams from the smaller ones, and that's why I feel it would be a player-perfect fit."

"It's really sad but understandable. I will miss the freedom he gave us as players. He spoke to us yesterday when we had our end-of-year meeting."

Meanwhile, the Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs striker, Bernard Parker, says he and the team are behind coach Steve Khompela all the way after the team finished 5th in the PSL standings.

Khompela played in 136 matches for Free State Stars and also coached the team, and Parker says they will only become stronger following their difficult season.
